Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean to sponsor an orphan?

It is a duty for us all to do whatever we can to help the orphans.  Allah (swt) says in the Holy Qur’an: “Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense [the religion]? For that is the one who drives away the orphan” (Al Ma’un: 1-2). If we ignore our orphans, we are not following our belief and religion.

It is narrated that Imam Ali (as) while in his last breaths of his life was giving his death will to his sons (A) saying: “Allah with your orphans, do not ignore their cries, and do not allow them to get lost in your presence, for I heard the holy messenger (PBUH) of Allah say: “Whoever helps an orphan until he becomes independent, Allah will make the reward of the heavens an obligation, just as he made the punishment of hell fire obligatory for the one who unlawfully eats the money of an orphan”.

Indeed, his sons cared so much for the orphans and their fight for justice and equality meant that they also left young orphans behind.  The battle of Karbala resulted in many wives being widowed and children being orphaned. We tend to remember these orphans only at the time of Muharram and Safar. Are we going to do the same for the forgotten orphans of Iraq?

What does NOF Orphan Sponsorship include?

The sponsorship funds go directly to the guardian of the child in the form of cash support every month. This support enables the guardian to purchase basic items such as food, clothing, educational supplies, transport costs and other essential living costs.

How much is it to sponsor an orphan?

Sponsors can choose any of the following types of sponsorship:

Full sponsorship: This means you sponsor one orphan by paying £40 a month. This is equivalent to just over £1 a day.

Co-sponsorship: This means you share sponsorship of an orphan with someone else. You pay £20 a month. You can share with someone you know or we can find another co-sponsor.

Family sponsorship: A unique opportunity to sponsor a whole family of 3 – 5 orphans and their mother for £200 a month.

Can I meet the orphans I have sponsored and get their details?

If you are a full sponsor of a child or you sponsor a family, then you may be able to meet your sponsored child(ren) in Iraq if you wish to do so. This needs to be arranged with our NOF offices in Iraq.

Once you register to fully sponsor an orphan or a family, you will receive a sponsorship card with details about your sponsored orphan(s), including their name, picture and some other details about the orphan(s).

You will also regularly receive updates about your sponsored child(ren) every year.

How does NOF define an orphan?

We define an orphan as a child under the age of 17 who has lost his/her father and their guardian is financially poor.

Is there any limit of the number of orphans I can sponsor?

No, there is no limit on how many orphans you can sponsor.

Can I choose which orphan I want to sponsor?

At Noor Orphans Fund, we want to give all orphans an equal opportunity to be sponsored, therefore, we have chosen not to give sponsors the choice of which orphan to sponsor.

But please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any specific requirements which we may be able to accommodate.

Full Sponsorship

You can sponsor an orphan that is registered with Noor Orphans Fund by donating £40 per month or £480 per year. This is equivalent to just over £1 a day. Full sponsorship helps provide children with the emergency supplies such as basics of food, clothing as well as education supplies and other essential living costs that are very much needed.

With full sponsorship you will be allocated an orphan and you will receive regular updates about the child you sponsor including photos. You can also correspond with your sponsored orphan and send gifts for Eid and birthdays.

Being a sponsor is extremely rewarding. You are contributing to the livelihood of an orphan who has lost their only means of financial security and has turned to you for support.

The families we support have no one to help them and no secure source of income. When they enrol on our orphan sponsorship program, the families receive a comprehensive support package, including monthly sponsorship in the form of cash, education, healthcare, food provision, micro-finance and much more.

Co-Sponsorship

Co-sponsorship is the contribution towards the full sponsorship of an orphan. Sponsors wishing to co-sponsor a child will be donating as little as £20 per month per orphan.

Co-sponsoring a child is a good option for those who wish to sponsor a boy or a girl and receive the many benefits and rewards but cannot afford to donate the full sponsorship.

As a co-sponsor you will be contributing to our orphan sponsorship program but will not be allocated a specific orphan to sponsor. This means that you will not receive information and regular updates about the orphan or have the ability to contact the orphan. We will however send general updates on our sponsorship programme to all co-sponsors to show the impact your donations have on the families we support.

Family Sponsorship

A unique opportunity to sponsor a whole family of 3 – 5 orphans and their mother for £200/month.

The widow and her children are living in extreme conditions whereby the house they live in can barely be called a home. The poverty has left them with no income or any means to earn a wage.

Your donation will prove a substantial relief for the families by providing a secured income that preserves their dignity and covers basic food, education, clothing and healthcare.
